In this house, which is centrally located at the Square in the heart of Esbjerg, the wedding takes place in the beautiful wedding room.
Ting- og Arresthuset was built in 1892, and was used for official purposes until 1983. The prisoncells was used until 1947, when the last inmates were released.
During World War II, the German Occupation used the house for their purpose, and many Danish freedom fighters were imprisoned here. The prisoncells still exist in the Jail House.

Wedding on a sunny day at Ting- og Arresthuset (The Old Town Hall)
The ceremony takes place in the beautiful wedding room, which was beautifully renovated in 2013, keeping the house's history and style. The original furniture from the council chamber decorates the rooms along with contemporary paintings, fresh flowers and candles.
All of this together, will make a nice romantic ambiance where wedding registrar makes your wedding the absolute the highlight of the day, with the wedding speech and wedding ritual.
After the ceremony, it is possible to enjoy a drink in a lovely adjoining room or in The Old Town Hall. So feel free to invite family and friends to celebrate your very special day.
It is very important to us that your wedding will be as your wishes. One of our registrars will conduct the official part of the ceremony, accompanied by a wedding speech on love and marriage.
Then it’s time to exchange rings and to take wedding photos. The ceremony ends with receiving your marriage certificate.
If you like, it is of course also possible for you to enjoy a refreshment with your guests, in an adjoining room, after the ceremony. To make sure it is possible, you may ask at the wedding office or the staff when you arrive at Ting and Arresthuset, so we can ensure that the room is available. If you know how many guests coming, please let us know in advance.
Remember: You must bring your own glasses, drinks/ bervarage, etc.
Some days, we have many weddings. Therefore the room can only be used for 10-15 minutes. Would you like it to last a little longer, can VisitEsbjerg help you find a nice place to hold a reception or party.
